RUNCORN train station made an appearance on the controversial Harry and Meghan Netflix show.

The six-part behind-the-scenes docuseries tells ‘the other side’ of the Sussexes’ love story and shows the challenges that led to them feeling ‘forced to step back from their full-time roles in the institution’.

During episode four of the series, Meghan Markle reflected on her relationship with the late Queen and talks about her first official engagement with Her Majesty - which included a visit to Runcorn train station.

Viewers are shown a glimpse of when the Queen was joined by Meghan as they stepped onto the blustery platform on June 14, 2018, while visiting Runcorn to open the Mersey Gateway bridge.

The royal visitors were met with polite handshakes and curtsies from local dignitaries – as well as wild cheering and applause from hundreds of flag-waving schoolchildren.

In the documentary, Meghan spoke about the official engagement with Her Majesty.

She said: “We took the Royal train together and we had breakfast that morning.

“I had a really great time with her.

“When we got into the car in between engagements, she had a blanket and she put it over my knees and we’re sitting there in the car with this blanket and I thought I recognise and respect and see that you are the Queen, but in this moment, I’m so grateful that there’s a grandmother figure because that feels like family.”

An appearance from Runcorn train station wasn’t the only link in the documentary though as Halton theatre boss Andrew Curphey could be spotted.

Andrew and his theatre company, Andrew Curphey Threatre Co, were commissioned by Halton Borough Council to stage a performance piece involving 10 children from 10 primary schools.

He can be spotted greeting the Queen during episode four of the show.
