TWO men from Runcorn have been charged following the assault of a police officer in Warrington town centre in the earlier hours of yesterday morning, Sunday.

Aaron Dolphin-Wright, 20, of Highlands Road, Runcorn and Lewis McGee, 20, of Canal Reach, Runcorn were both arrested following the incident that happened on Barbauld Street in Warrington at approximately 4:20am.

The police officer was attempting to carry out an arrest when according to Warrington police the pair ‘decided to assault' the officer in 'an attempt to free the detained man'.

As a result, the duo were arrested and have been charged with a public order offence and assault on an emergency worker.

Warrington Police shared the incident in a Facebook post.

It reads: “Violence against an emergency worker will not be tolerated."

The pair were both bailed and are to appear before Warrington Magistrates’ Court on January 4.
