AFTER beating the best in the country at his respective age and weight in the quarter finals of the national NAGBC boxing tournament, Alfie Hill faced a tough test in Yousef Aaron, the number two ranked boxer in the semi final.
A taller opponent with a longer reach was always going to be a tough task for Hill. together with the opponent having twice his boxing experience. But undeterred he gave a good account of himself.
Both boxers started cautiously, feeling the way and not wanting to commit. Trying to work their opponent out, but they soon got the bout started in an explosive exchange of shots.
At the end of the first round both boxers went back to there corners evenly matched.
In round two Alfie started slowly and despite another busy round Alfie’s opponent was the stronger of the two, definitely taking the win for this round.
A strong corner talk and Hill came out for the last round all guns blazing, and he turned the bout around to take round three.
A long wait from the judges came back in favour of Hill's opponent, Yousef Aaron who comes from the pound4pound boxing club.
A fantastic effort from Hill in just 10 fights he has met, mixed with, and beaten the best at his age and weight.
The new year awaits and 2023 is sure to be a big year for Hill, and a few more steps towards his dream, and the goal he has set himself of becoming a professional boxer.
