Time is running out for Cheshire residents to have their say on plans to build a massive 125km hydrogen network.

Cadent’s HyNet North West project would be the UK's first 100 per cent hydrogen network, consisting of 125km of  new pipelines that would distribute hydrogen produced by Vertex Hydrogen - based at the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex - to a number of industrial customers across the North West.

The pipeline itself would be underground, with approximately 10 Hydrogen Above Ground Installations (HAGIs) required along the pipeline route. Cadent, who is bringing forward the proposals, is looking for views or information that can help it develop and finalise its proposals. A consultation on the plans runs until November 10.

As part of the planning process, HyNet has to submit an application to the government for a development consent order, due to the proposed network being regarded as 'nationally significant infrastructure. But wants to gather views first.

Rob Donovan, Project Director, Cadent’s HyNet North West Hydrogen Pipeline said: "It has been great to speak to so many people through our consultation events.  We’re looking forward to hearing more views as we approach the close of our consultation on November 10.

"All the feedback we receive is important and will inform our work to finalise our plans ahead of submitting our application for a Development Consent Order to the Planning Inspectorate and Secretary of State in Spring 2023.

"With just a few weeks left of this statutory consultation period, we hope that many people can come and provide feedback to help us develop the best possible pipeline route.”

The consultation hub is available at the project website (www.hynethydrogenpipeline.co.uk) where residents can find out more about the project and provide feedback.
