A CARE home in Widnes is one of 300 places across the country to get a tree as part of the legacy in honour of the Queen.

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) has today, Monday, announced a UK-wide network of more than 300 inspiring organisations who will receive trees from the QGC 'Tree of Trees' as part of the living legacy in honour of Her Majesty The Queen.

And St Patrick's care home in the town has been given a tree.

St Patrick's is a Nursing Home based in Widnes and home to 40 people living with dementia. It has recently revamped its sensory garden to be enjoyed by residents, their families and friends and the local community.

The open space within their grounds help stimulate residents’ minds and improve overall well-being, offering a peaceful place for all.

In honour and loving memory of Her Majesty, the QGC will host a tree gifting ceremony involving a symbolic group of 20 London-based organisations at The Royal Hospital Chelsea today. This event coincides with the start of the tree planting season in the UK, which is from October to March.

The QGC is a nationwide tree planting initiative originally created to mark the Platinum Jubilee. Following the wishes of King Charles, the QGC has been extended to give people an opportunity to plant trees to honour The Queen.
