WARRINGTON Athletics Club runners won medals in baking hot conditions at the North of England Age Group Championships in Liverpool.

Lewis Shaw collected silver in the under 15s boys' 80m hurdles at Wavertree Stadium, while Evie Elliott – a second-claim runner for Warrington AC – collected bronze in the 75m hurdles in the same age group.

Shaw, who is ranked top in the UK, missed out on gold to his arch-rival Luke Pichler from Blyth on the run-in from the final hurdle with the times being 11.28secs and 11.32secs.

He went into the event upon return from a fortnight's holiday in USA and Mexico, meaning he had little training in preparation.

Elliott, coached by Warrington's Neal Petley but running for Bury AC, clocked 12.15secs – just outside her personal best time – to achieve her bronze.

Esme Heavey was fourth in the under 15s girls' 1500m in 4mins 50.26secs, just over a second outside of her best time.

Euan Lawton finished third in his time trial and 10th overall in the under 13s boys' 800m in a personal best 2mins 24.66secs.

In the same event, Oliver Davenport won his time trial in a personal best 2mins 32.74secs to finish 17th overall.

Another two of the club's runners featured in the latest edition of the Trafford Athletic Club Distance Grand Prix at Longford Stadium.

In the 800metres series, under 17 Ben Pucill was sixth in his race with 2mins 02.61secs while in the 1500m series under 20 Orla Gregory crossed the line ninth in her race in 4mins 43.36secs.
