GRAPPENHALL Cricket Club's first XI continued their march towards promotion by winning their 14th match in succession with Albert Pennington the star of the show.

Sale were beaten in the Cheshire County Cricket League Division One encounter by six wickets after posting 204-7 off 50 overs.

Pennington bowled superbly to take three wickets and then in the response Grappers knocked off the total for the loss of only four wickets, with Pennington being the top scorer on 46. Ben Bodha finished 41 not out.

The seconds played out a draw at home to Brooklands as they finished on 230-8 off 50 overs in response to Brooklands' 246-5.

Stanley Pennington picked up three wickets and Steve Rooney top scored with 67, while Iain Wright contributed 59.

On Sunday, Grappenhall CC played host to the second XI T20 finals day and a huge crowd, with Grappers in the first semi-final against favourites Chester Boughton Hall.

Batting first, Grappers posted a mammoth 202-5 off 20 overs, with Wright scoring a superb 88 off just 49 deliveries and Ben Clissold adding 43 off 27 balls.

Unfortunately, Chester’s class told as they chased down the total with an over to spare.

Grappers found it hard to take wickets, with Chester only losing two wickets in the second innings.
