WHATEVER the level of cricket, taking 10 wickets in a match is an astonishing feat.

That is what Calum McCaffery did for his team as a sequence of four matches without a win was ended.

He wiped out all the Mobberley batsmen for Runcorn Cricket Club’s second XI in their eight-wicket win at the weekend.

McCaffery clean bowled five of his opponents, while catching and bowling another.

And a further four batsmen were caught in the field from McCaffery’s lethal attacks.

He finished with figures of 10-34 from his 15 overs, four of which were maidens, for an economy rate of 2.27.

What is all the more remarkable is that it had taken nine previous appearances for McCaffery to tally up 10 wickets.

McCaffery’s display helped his team dismiss Mobberley for 108, with the target then being reached for the loss of two wickets in the 18th over, leaving Runcorn in seventh place after their first win since June 18.

Runcorn second XI captain Steve Bebbington said: “It’s an extremely rare occurrence and an outstanding individual performance from Calum to take all 10 wickets.”
