A HIVE of activity is set to transform Widnes Waterfront with an ice rink, cinema, bowling alley, restaurant and bingo hall.
And The Hive is the name chosen by a World reader for this exciting new multi-million pound development.
"A bee hive is part of the old Widnes crest," said council leader, Cllr Tony McDermott.
"The name on the crest is Industria Ditat', latin for industry enriches.
"The honey bees and bee hives represented the workers of Widnes."
The Hive was the name selected in a competition because it reflects that there will be so much going on at the leisure site and it also lends itself to marketing slogans.
Groundworks have already started on the site beside Ashley Way.
Building is due to begin next month.
The Hive is expected to open in Easter, 2009.
