MORE closures are planned affecting motorists who use the M56 and A533 Expressway bridge – starting from tonight, Monday.

This is part of a £23million replacement bridge project in Runcorn, which National Highways says will support communities and businesses for decades to come.

The bridge is located between junctions 11 for Daresbury and Preston Brook and 12 for Runcorn on the M56.

It is a vital local link, providing access across the M56 to Runcorn from Preston Brook and Northwich, and vice versa.

Now National highways is warning of more than two weeks of disruption, requiring the bridge to be closed overnight in both directions for two weeks from tonight, ending on the morning of Saturday, July 16.

The closures will be in place from 7pm to 6am, running Monday to Friday only, with the bridge remaining open as usual on Saturday and Sunday nights.

The closures will allow workers to carry out a variety of work programmes, including planning for new drainage and building new kerb lines.

Other teams will also be using the closures to complete important structural surveys on the bridge, reducing disruption to users.

Meanwhile, the public body is also warning of upcoming full overnight M56 closures this month, heading westbound only.

The carriageway will be shut between junction 11 and 12 for four nights in July, while there will also be an eastbound single lane closure for safety reasons, as a crane will be in operation.

These dates of the closures are Monday to Thursday, July 18 to 21, between 9pm and 6am.
