ARSONISTS filled a manhole with litter and set it on fire late last night.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to Leaside in Runcorn after a blaze broke out in the sewer at around 11.30pm yesterday, Friday.
One fire engine attended the scene, as did police.
A fire service spokesman said: “Deliberate ignition is suspected as the cause of a manhole and sewer on fire on Leaside.
“They had been filled with rubbish and set alight.
“Firefighters used a hose reel jet and stack drag to put out the fire and asked for police to attend.”
