A WIDNES accountant has issued a warning to residents who rent out second properties.

Nigel Holland, from Holland Co in the town, says there has been a sharp increase in tax investigations into residents who rent out second properties.

He added: "There are lots of Halton landlords who have failed to register with the Inland Revenue and the Inland Revenue have launched a campaign to investigate the tax affairs of these landlords.

"I suspect that this campaign may have been instigated because the Government has spent so much money on grants which it paid out during the pandemic."

The firm, which specialises in property taxation, says genuine taxpayers could be hit and investigations are doing back years.

Letters from the Inland Revenue are being sent out.

Anyone who thinks they may be affected, can contact the firm on 0151 420 6666 or info@hollandandcompany.co.uk.
