THE latest figures detailing the number of new coronavirus cases detected in Halton this past week have been published.

During the week up to November 20, which is the most recent period for which data is available, 566 new cases were recorded in the borough through lab and rapid lateral flow testing.

This demonstrates an infection rate of 436.2 cases among every 100,000 residents, which is the 204th highest rate in the UK at present.

Comparatively, the previous seven-day period up to November 13 saw 554 cases detected at a rate of 426.9.

Halton is among 278 of 377 local areas in the UK that have seen a week-on-week rise in rates (74 per cent), while 95 have seen a fall (25 per cent) and four are unchanged.

Torridge in Devon continues to have the highest rate in the UK (1,030.3), followed by Mid Sussex (849.2) and Gwynedd in Wales (848.4).
