THE number of new coronavirus cases being recorded in Halton has seen a slight rise over the past week.

Figures for the week up to November 19, which is the most recent period for which data is available, show 564 new cases were detected in the borough through lab and rapid lateral flow testing.

This demonstrates an infection rate of 434.7 cases among every 100,000 residents, which is the 206th highest rate in the UK at present.

Comparatively, the previous seven-day period up to November 12 saw 550 cases recorded at a rate of 423.9.

Halton is among 284 of 377 local areas in the UK that have seen a week-on-week rise in rates (75 per cent), while 89 have seen a fall (24 per cent) and four are unchanged.

Torridge in Devon continues to have the highest rate in the UK (1,014.3), followed by Mid Ulster in Northern Ireland (857.3) and Gwynedd in Wales (846).
