THE number of new coronavirus cases being recorded in Halton has risen slightly, according to the latest official statistics.

During the week up to November 13, which is the most recent period for which figures are available, 552 new cases were detected through lab and rapid lateral flow testing.

This demonstrates an infection rate of 425.4 cases among every 100,000 residents, which is the 153rd highest rate in the UK at present.

Comparatively, the previous seven-day period up to November 6 saw 525 cases recorded at a rate of 404.6.

Halton is among 290 of 377 local areas in the UK that have seen a week-on-week rise in rates (77 per cent), while 87 have seen a fall (23 per cent).

Torridge in Devon has the highest rate in the UK (848.4), followed by Causeway Coast and Glens in Northern Ireland (737.5) and Mid Sussex (714.5).
