THE number of new coronavirus cases being recorded in Halton has seen another week-on-week fall, latest official figures show.

During the week up to November 11, which is the most recent period for which data is available, 544 new virus cases were detected in the borough through lab and rapid lateral flow testing.

This demonstrates an infection rate of 419.2 cases among every 100,000 residents, which is the 123rd highest case rate in the UK at present.

Comparatively, the previous seven-day period up to November 4 saw 610 cases recorded at a rate of 470.1.

Halton is among 197 of 377 local areas in the UK that have seen a week-on-week fall in rates (52 per cent), while 177 have seen a rise (47 per cent), and three are unchanged.

Torridge in Devon has the highest rate in the UK (713), followed by North Devon (674.3) and Causeway Coast and Glens in Northern Ireland (673.4).
