PARENTS and carers joined pupils at a Widnes school to add a poppy to a ‘Remembrance Rail’.

Youngsters at St Gerard’s Catholic Primary and Nursery School then took time to pause and reflect the country’s fallen soldiers as they made their way into school.

Edd Naylor, assistant head teacher, said: “Our children and families joined this 'opportunity of reflection' to create a wonderful tribute to those who gave their lives for our today.

Runcorn and Widnes World:

“It was humbling to observe the children discussing this important event with their parents and carers and explaining to them that this day marks the day that the First World War ended in 1918.

“Our remembrance rail will be added to during the course of this week to showcase the impact of collective work.

“We would like to extend our thanks to our parents and wider community for helping raise money for the Poppy Appeal.

“We appreciate that this time of the year is costly and therefore we would like to thank you for donating and supporting this wonderful cause.”
