TWO friends from Runcorn and Widnes will be attempting a mammoth 340,000 steps this month in aid of mental health charity Mind.

Mind offers information and advice to people with mental health problems and lobbies government and local authorities on their behalf.

And as the third fundraising challenge he has got involved in this year, Widnes’ Brian Freeston will be attempting nearly 20,000 steps per day.

He will be doing so with his Runcorn pal Mike McCrumlish, 36, and they are aware it will be no easy feat.

“It will be a challenge. We both work throughout the day so we will both include our daily steps from work, but roughly I normally hit 15,000 steps a day so to get 340,000 in October, you’re looking at nearly 19,000 or 20,000 steps per day.

“On the weekend when I’m not in work, sometimes I struggle to hit 10,000 steps so it will be a really good challenge.”

Brian is involved in a mental health group on Facebook called 'Keep Smiling' with more than 800 members. He is one of the admins and helps offer advice and support to those who need it.

“It’s really good. We can help offer advice to people based on what we’ve experienced. The group is open to whoever,” Brian, 37 added.

Brian and Mike will be men on a mission walking around the area in their specially printed tops in support of the charity.

“I’m very proud to support MIND.  I keep saying every year I’m not doing any more charity events but then this will be my third one.

“I won’t settle until I’ve done it.”
