A BUSINESS which has been owned by the same family for over 60 years has been placed on the market for almost £1 million.

AM Jones Scrap Metal, which has turned over £500,000 in its most recent financial year, operates a one-acre fully licensed scrap metal and end of life vehicles site on an industrial estate in Widnes.

The business was founded by Alun Jones, the father of the current owner, Steven Jones, in 1959.

Steven and his brother John took over the business when their father died in 1994.

Sadly, John died in 2005 and since then Steven and his wife, Karen, have owned and managed the business.

Steven and Karen have put the business on the market for £995,000 as they wish to soon retire.

Megan Sutherst, sales negotiator at Blacks Business Brokers, said: “AM Jones has a fantastic reputation as a professionally run scrap metal business and, as well as a large freehold plot of land, the business is fully equipped with all the machinery that a new owner would need.

Runcorn and Widnes World:

“Despite being six decades old, it is very much a 21st-Century business, with a modern website and social media presence.

“This is a great opportunity to acquire a forward-looking business in a great location, with a great reputation.

“I am expecting strong interest.”

The freehold on this plot is included in the sale price, as are all fixtures and equipment, including a weighbridge, excavator with shear, scrap handlers/grabber, hook lift truck with skips and forklift truck.
