A GIANT sculpture of a polar bear crossed the Silver Jubilee bridge yesterday, Thursday, on its way to the Cop 26 climate talks in Glasgow.
‘Clarion the bear’ – a 10-foot high sculpture made from bamboo, willow and PVA glue – is being carried 306 miles over 22 days from South Shropshire for the climate talks which start on 1 November.
It is being carried on a ‘palanquin’, which is a large box resting on poles held by bearers.
The bear’s creator is Bamber Hawes from South Shropshire, who has a background in art and design.
Bamber sees the walk as a ‘Climate Crisis Pilgrimage’ and wants people to ‘connect with the landscape by moving through it slowly’, while thinking of refugees whose homelands have become uninhabitable.
The team are looking for people to take part in the walk for a day.
The website says: “It will not be a shouty, banner-waving demonstration; but a day of talking, walking, moving through your local landscape.”
Clarion is a ‘modern’ bear and even has a Facebook page, where you can live track his progress!
