THE latest official coronavirus figures for Halton show the borough’s infection rate has risen again.
During the week up to October 7, which is the most recent period for which data is available, 729 new Covid cases were detected through lab and rapid lateral flow testing.
This demonstrates an infection rate of 561.8 cases among every 100,000 residents, which is the 38th highest rate in the UK compared with all other local authority areas.
Comparatively, the previous seven-day period up to September 30 saw 532 new virus cases recorded at a rate of 410.0.
Halton is among 234 of 377 local areas in England that have seen a week-on-week rise in rates (62 per cent), while 141 have seen a fall (37 per cent) and two are unchanged.
Trafford has the highest rate in the UK (823.6), followed by Barrow-in-Furness (782.3) and Kettering in the East Midlands (775.8))
