THE number of new coronavirus cases being recorded in Halton has risen, according to the latest data.

Figures for the week up to September 26, which is the latest period for which they are available, indicates that 452 new infections were detected in the borough through lab and rapid lateral flow testing.

This demonstrated an infection rate of 348.3 cases among every 100,000 residents, which is the 198th highest rate in the UK at present.

The previous seven-day period up to September 19 saw 439 new cases recorded at a rate of 338.3.

Halton is among 301 of 377 local areas in the UK that have seen a week-on-week rise in rates (80 per cent), while 75 have seen a fall (20 per cent) and one is unchanged.

Kettering in Northamptonshire continues to have the highest rate (1,003.8), followed by Neath Port Talbot in Wales (897.6) and Rhondda Cynon Taf in Wales (857.5).
