MORE than 400 new cases of coronavirus were recorded in Halton over the past week, according to the latest data.

Official figures show that in the week up to September 24, which is the most recent period for which they are available, 437 virus cases were detected in the borough through lab and rapid lateral flow testing.

This equates to an infection rate of 336.8 cases among every 100,000 residents, which is the 199th highest rate in the UK at present.

Comparatively, the previous week up to September 17 saw 431 cases detected at a rate of 332.2.

Although only slightly, Halton is among 306 of 377 local areas in the UK that have seen a week-on-week rise in rates (81 per cent), while 71 have seen a fall (19 per cent).

Kettering in Northamptonshire continues to have the highest rate (1,011.6), followed by Neath Port Talbot in Wales (928.1) and Rhondda Cynon Taf in Wales (886.4).
