AN emergency cordon was put in place after a gas pipe caught fire in Runcorn this afternoon, Wednesday.
Firefighters from Runcorn Fire Station rushed to Maple Avenue shortly before 4pm after receiving reports of a wheelie bin fire near a property.
On arrival, the crew found that the fire had spread to a nearby external gas supply pipe.
The fire was extinguished with water and the gas supply to the property was isolated.

An evacuation of the home was ordered and a cordon was put in place as a precaution.
Once satisfied that the area was safe, firefighters handed the scene over to an engineer.
