A MAN was rescued from the Manchester Ship Canal in Runcorn early this morning, Sunday, by firefighters.
Fire teams were notified of a man being in the canal in the Wigg Island/Old Quay area at around 7:40am.
Six fire engines attended as well as a line rescue unit and an aerial ladder platform.
Firefighters in a boat belonging to Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service assisted the man in getting out of the water where he was then assessed by paramedics.
Two rafts and a rescue sled also entered the water.
Firefighters were in attended for more than five hours.
