THE number of new cases of coronavirus recorded in Halton saw a slight rise over the past week, the latest data shows.

During the week up to August 5, which is the most recent period for which Public Health England figures are available, 384 new cases of Covid-19 were detected in the borough through lab and rapid lateral flow testing.

This demonstrates an infection rate of 296.7 cases among every 100,000 residents, which is the 109th highest rate in England compared with all other local authority areas.

Comparatively, the previous seven-day period up to July 29 saw 356 new cases recorded at a rate of 275.1.
