LIVERPOOL coroner's office has launched an appeal to find family of Globe award-winning community champion Albert Ellis who has passed away.

The 74-year-old - crowned 'neighbour of the year' in the Wirral Globe's Golden Globe Awards in 2014 - was found dead alone at his home in Seabank Road, Wallasey last Friday, July 23.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. It is believed he may have a brother living in Liverpool.

Albert was among a number of community heroes honoured for their outstanding contribution to society at the 2014 Wirral Golden Globe Awards.

It is understood this evening that the community that knew Albert well in New Brighton is going to buy a bench in his memory.

He was nominated for the award in 2014 by Cathy Roberts, who said at the time: "He is always thinking of ways to improve life for all neighbours and businesses in New Brighton but, unlike many others, he actually finds a way of getting things done.

"He never asks for praised - he doesn't stand still long enough to hear it anyway."

Albert received his award from deputy chief executive of sponsors Magenta Living, Patrick McCarthy, and local radio veteran Johnny Kennedy.

Anyone with information that could help trace Albert's family can contact Liverpool coroner's office 0151 233 5770 or email HMCoroner@liverpool.gov.uk.
