A BIKER was seriously injured after a crash closed the M56 last night.

The 46-year-old suffered injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening during the collision on the eastbound carriageway, which involved a car and a motorbike.

Police and paramedics attended the scene, between junction 11 at Daresbury and junction 12 at Runcorn, shortly after 8.15pm yesterday, Thursday.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old car driver was uninjured and the motorway was fully reopened at around 10.15pm.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “At 8.20pm on Thursday, July 15, police attended reports of a collision on the M56 in Cheshire – the incident, on the eastbound carriageway between junctions 11 and 12, involved a white Vauxhall Viva and a green Kawasaki motorbike.

“The rider of the motorbike, a 46-year-old man from Warrington, sustained serious injuries to his arm and was taken to hospital.

“His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

“The driver of the car, a 21-year-old woman rom Birkenhead, was uninjured.

“The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident – the scene was cleared by 10.20pm.”
