THE takeover of the Silver Jubilee bridge has been cancelled due to the rising Covid infections in Halton.

‘A Life in a Day: Bridge Takeover’ was due to take place 26 June, Saturday, to celebrate the iconic bridge in its 60th anniversary year.

A statement from Halton Borough Council said: “It is with much regret that, following advice from Public Health, the Council has taken the difficult decision to postpone the Borough of Culture Bridge Takeover event on Saturday 26 June.

“Halton, along with the other areas of the Liverpool City Region, Cheshire and much of the North West, is currently a Covid ‘Enhanced Response Area’ with Covid infection rates still rising quickly in Halton and neighbouring areas, mainly as a result of the Delta variant.

“We would like to thank everyone who has worked tirelessly and professionally to put the event together, and all the participants who had come forward to help make it a special day.

“We will be looking to rearrange the event at a later date.”
