THE number of new coronavirus cases being recorded in Halton remains low, according to the latest data from Public Health England.

During the week up to May 30, which is the most recent period for which figures are available, 11 new cases were detected in the borough through lab and rapid lateral flow testing.

This demonstrates a rate of infection of 8.5 cases per every 100,000 residents, which is the 252nd highest rate in England.

Comparatively, the previous seven-day period up to May 23 saw 10 cases identified at a rate of 7.7.

Halton is among 213 of 315 local authority areas in England that have seen a rise in rates (68 per cent), while 91 have seen a fall (29 per cent) and 11 are unchanged.
