THE number of new coronavirus cases being detected in Halton within the space of a week remains steady, new figures have revealed.

In the seven days up to May 29, which is the most recent period for which Public Health England figures are available, nine Covid-19 cases were identified through lab or rapid lateral flow testing.

This demonstrates an infection rate of seven cases per every 100,000 residents in the borough, which is the 283rd highest in England among all local authority areas.

The previous week up to May 22 also saw nine cases recorded, again at a rate of seven per 100,000 people.

Halton was among 10 of 315 areas of England that saw their case rates remain unchanged, while 213 saw a rise (68 per cent) and 92 saw case rates fall (29 per cent).
