A GIRL has died following what police say appears to have been a ‘tragic accident’ in Widnes.

The incident happened at 11.20am last Sunday, May 23, outside a property in Tedder Square.

An 11-year-old girl was airlifted to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital following the arrival of police and paramedics.

But after four days in hospital, Cheshire Police has confirmed that she has sadly died as a result of her serious injuries on Thursday.

The girl’s death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman for the force said: “At around 11.20am on Sunday, May 23, police were called to reports that an 11-year-old girl had sustained serious injuries following an incident outside an address on Tedder Square, Widnes.

“Police and paramedics attended the scene and the girl was subsequently taken to Alder Hey Hospital.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of all the staff involved, the girl passed away on Thursday, May 27.

“Her death is not being treated as suspicious and a case file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Detective Inspector Rob Lees added: “This appears to have been a tragic accident and our thoughts remain with the child’s family at this difficult time.

“They are being supported by officers and we request for their privacy to be respected.”
