A SUSPECT has been charged after two teenagers were injured during a knife attack on a bus.

Cheshire Police say a 17-year-old boy suffered facial injuries during the assault in Runcorn on the afternoon of Saturday, May 8.

The teen was rushed to Warrington Hospital, but has since been discharged.

Meanwhile, a 16-year-old girl also suffered minor injuries as the bus travelled between stops in Brookvale and Palacefields.

Hamid Akhonzada was arrested in south London in connection with the incident on Friday afternoon.

The 26-year-old, of Liskeard Close in Brookvale, has since been charged with wounding, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

He is due to appear at Warrington Magistrates Court in order to face these charges later today, Monday.

A force spokesman said: “A 26-year-old man from Runcorn has been charged after two teenagers were injured in an incident on a bus in the town.

“Hamid Akhonzada, of Liskeard Close in Brookvale, was arrested in Croydon, south London, at around 1.30pm on Friday, May 14.

“He has subsequently been charged with wounding a 17-year-old boy with intent, assaulting a 16-year-old girl and causing her actual bodily harm and possession of a knife in a public place.

“The charges relate to an incident that took place on a bus that was travelling between the Brookvale and Palacefields bus stops in Runcorn.

“The 17-year-old boy sustained facial injuries as a result of the incident, which occurred at around 3.15pm on Saturday, May 8.

“He was taken to Warrington Hospital in an ambulance and has since been discharged after receiving treatment.

“The 16-year-old girl sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident.

“Akhonzada has been remanded in custody and is set to appear at Warrington Magistrates Court on Monday, May 17.”
