THIS is the moment firefighters rescued a petrified cat from the tree it had been stuck in for 30 hours.

Hermione the cat managed to make her way up to the top of the tree on Lutterworth Avenue in Runcorn on Friday morning.

But it proved to be a costly mistake after she realised that she could not get down again.

She was eventually helped down by crews from Runcorn Fire Station around midday on Saturday using a ladder and a net, much to the delight of her concerned owners.

“She was either looking for birds, or there was a dog floating around and she might have ran away from it without thinking about how to get down,” said owner Lucy Wardropper.

“I was working when she went up the tree, and my neighbour messaged me saying the cat had been up there for quite a while.

“She was terrified up there, crying and panicking, and it was getting later and later on Friday when we realised she wasn’t coming down.”

After consulting with the RSPCA, Lucy called the fire service who attended promptly and were able to help Hermione to safety.

“The fire service was lovely when they came down and they were there within 15 minutes,” Lucy added.

“Hermione was surprisingly ok after we got her down.

“We thought she would be a beg of nerves as she’s quite a timid cat, but she was fine after a couple of cat treats.”
