SUNFLOWERS in memory of those who have been loved and lost are to appear in the grounds of Chester Cathedral.

The Hospice of the Good Shepherd, based in Backford, has launched its annual Flower Appeal, for local people to remember the life of someone special at Chester Cathedral.

For the past two years, the Hospice of the Good Shepherd has raised thousands of pounds from their Forget Me Not and Dedicate A Daisy appeals.

This year, the hospice has commissioned a limited number of beautifully handcrafted and unique iron sunflowers that can be dedicated in memory of someone special or to show support for the work the hospice provides.

Caroline Siddall, director of income generation, said: “This is an opportunity for the people of Chester and West Cheshire to remember the life of someone special to them. Anyone can dedicate a sunflower, you don’t have to have experienced our care first hand here at the hospice.

“All flowers will be on display at Chester Cathedral for the month of August and once the display has ended, the sunflowers can either be collected from the hospice or will be posted to you.

“Memories stay with us for life and we hope our Sunflower Appeal will help our supporters remember and celebrate the lives of someone special to them.”

As with so many charities, the hospice is currently facing difficult financial times due to the continuing impact of the coronavirus and is having to find new and innovative ways to raise funds to ensure the Hospice can continue to deliver its essential end of life care to the community.
