AN investigation is being carried out after a fire at a factory in Widnes.

Two fire engines from Widnes and Penketh responded to reports of a fire in an industrial premises on Tanhouse Lane at around 11.45am on Friday (May 7).

On arrival at the scene, firefighters discovered the fire was in an electricity plant room on the first floor of the factory.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the plant room.

"The fire was put out with the aid of a dry powder extinguisher and a hose reel jet.

"The crews made sure that the fire was fully out and had not spread, using a thermal imaging camera to look for hotspots.

"Firefighters were in attendance for around three-and-a-half hours.

"An investigation into the cause of the fire has begun."
