A 26-YEAR-OLD pub manager is saying goodbye to her long locks inspired by her friend from Widnes who was diagnosed with cancer at 19.

Corinne Mellor is donating nine inches of her hair to the Little Princess Trust.

The Little Princess Trust make and provide free wigs for children and young people who have suffered hair loss due to cancer treatments.

It costs £550 to turn real hair into wigs and Corinne hoped to meet this target as well as raising even more.

She has raised £650 so far with a few days to go until the big chop on May 10.

Corinne, who lives in Sandymoor, chose the charity as they provided her friend Megan with two real hair wigs when she was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 at the age of just 19.

Corinne, who is a team leader at the Ring O’Bells in Daresbury, said: ‘‘Megan is amazing and inspirational, her strength and determination throughout her treatment was just unbelievable.

‘‘She’s just an incredible young woman.

‘‘So, it’s my way of giving back to them and hopefully my hair will make a difference to someone like Meg.’’

Megan Derbyshire, from Widnes, said: ‘‘When I was diagnosed, one of the first things my consultant told me is that I would lose my hair due to treatment.

‘‘At the time I had really long red hair and it was heart breaking to lose it.

‘‘My social worker put me forward to the Little Princess Trust as I was under the age of 24.

‘‘I absolutely loved my wig; I could style it how I wanted – I even had an updo when I was a bridesmaid!

‘‘I will forever be grateful for the confidence boost these wigs gave me at such a difficult time and now my hair is starting to get really long I hope to donate some hair myself in the future.

‘‘What Corinne is doing is incredible and it will make somebody somewhere a very happy little girl.’’

Corinne’s hairdresser, Sinead Perry from Fleek in Runcorn Old Town, is cutting Corinne’s hair for free to support the great cause.

Corinne said: ‘‘I am so grateful to everyone who has donated so far and to those who have shared my fundraising page to raise as much awareness and to reach as many people as possible.

‘‘The donations will mean so much to the charity too and the children and young people to support.’’
