YOUTHS set a number of small fires in Great Sankey yesterday evening, Saturday.

This is just one of three incidents involving deliberate fires across the town last night.

At 5.43pm firefighters from Penketh attended reports of a fire in the open on Lingley Green Avenue.

On arrival the crew discovered a number of small fires which had been deliberately set alight by youths.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire added: "Firefighters used water back packs to extinguish the fires and were detained at the scene for around 30 minutes.

"Anyone with any information in relation to the identity of the people who started the fires is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101, quoting IML 977712 or visit cheshire.police.uk/tua."

Another deliberate fire was started at Bewsey Park Close at 9.20pm. 

Anyone with information should quote IML 977879.

Later, shortly before 10.40pm, firefighters were called to reports of a fire in an outbuilding on Grasmere Avenue in Warrington. 

A spokesperson said: "Two fire engines from Warrington and Birchwood were dispatched to the scene and on arrival they discovered a small fire involving a wheelie bin in a metal shelter near to the community centre. 

"Firefighters used a water back pack to extinguish the fire and were detained at the scene for around 30 minutes.

"The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate and anyone with any information is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101."
