CATALANS Dragons' former Widnes Vikings second rower Matt Whitley is facing a lay-off after sustaining a neck injury in his side’s 24-8 defeat by Warrington Wolves in Perpignan on Saturday.

The 25-year-old, who left the field at half-time in the Super League Round 4 game at Stade Gilbert Brutus, has undergone scans to determine the extent of the injury and, although he does not need surgery, no time has been given for his rehabilitation.

A statement from the club said: “The MRI has shown a small injury in his neck that will mean he needs a period of treatment and rehab with the club medical team.

“His recovery will determine his availability.”

Whitley made his Vikings debut in 2015 and went on to score 20 tries in 100 appearances before joining the French club in time for the 2019 campaign.
