WIDNES Vikings were steamrollered by Batley Bulldogs despite taking a 12-0 lead inside 10 minutes.

They conceded 38 unanswered points in the second period.

The 48-16 away loss leaves the Black and Whites second from bottom of the Championship after three successive losses.

All started well enough for Vikings as on-loan Warrington forward Eribe Doro crossed for his first try for the club, cashing in on a fine pass from Kenny Baker.

And then Baker got his reward as a few moments later he rocketed to the line off a Paul Clough pass.

Ste Tyrer converted both tries.

Then Batley got themselves back into the encounter, Johnny Campbell making the most of a chip kick by Luke Hooley and then Josh Tonks scrambling over from close range to cut the gap to two points.

Penalty shots were missed by Dale Morton for the hosts and Tyrer but Vikings hit back with another try.

Shane Grady offloaded for Owen Buckley to dive over in the corner.

Batley drew level within five minutes of the restart and it all went downhill from there.

Michael Ward galloped to the line and then it was all one-way traffic as further tries were recorded by Ben White, Morton, Hooley, Campbell, Jodie Broughton and Dane Manning.
