THE number of new coronavirus cases being recorded in Halton each week remains steady, the latest available Public Health England data shows.

Figures for the week up to March 26 indicate that 79 new Covid-19 infections were recorded in the borough.

This is the equivalent of 61.0 cases per 100,000 residents, which is the 88th highest rate in England.

Comparatively, the previous seven-day period up to March 19 saw 78 cases recorded at a rate of 60.3.

The figures are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government's testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two).

Data for the most recent four days, March 27-30, has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

Of the 315 local areas in England, 139 (44 per cent) have seen a rise in case rates, while 169 (54 per cent) have seen a fall and seven are unchanged.

Here is the list in full, reading: rate of new cases in the seven days to March 26; number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to March 26; rate of new cases in the seven days to March 19; number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to March 19.
