THE number of new coronavirus cases being recorded in Halton in the space of a week is at its point since December 16.

According to the latest available Public Health England data, a total of 200 cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the borough in the seven days up to February 18.

This demonstrates an infection rate of 154.5 cases per 100,000 people, which is the 80th highest in England compared with all other local authority areas.

Comparatively, Halton recorded 258 new virus cases in the previous week up to February 11 at a rate of 199.4.

The figures are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government's testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two).

Data for the most recent four days, February 19-22, has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

Of the 315 local areas in England, 43 (14 per cent) have seen a rise in case rates, while 267 (85 per cent) have seen a fall and five are unchanged.

Corby in Northamptonshire continues to have the highest rate in England (329.6), followed by Middlesbrough (285.1) and Peterborough (270).

Here is the list in full. From left to right, it reads: name of local authority; rate of new cases in the seven days to February 18; number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to February 18; rate of new cases in the seven days to February 11; number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to February 11.
