A CAR ended up balancing upside down against railings in Widnes last night, Sunday, after a driver crashed and fled the scene on foot.

The incident is believed to be linked to an arson attack in the town which occurred just 15 minutes before.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson explained: "Emergency services were alerted to an arson attack on a Ford Transit van on Millfield Road just before 6pm on Sunday, February 14.

"The fire spread to a nearby shop and residents in the vicinity were evacuated.

"At around 6.15pm a collision involving a red Nissan Micra and a Honda Civic occurred.

"As a result of the collision, the Nissan Micra flipped onto nearby railings on Peel House Lane.

"The driver of the Nissan Micra, a man, then fled the scene on foot.

"He is described as white, around 6 feet tall, aged around 40, with long wavy black hair and of average build.

"He was wearing a black jacket, black hoodie and grey pants.

"He spoke with a Liverpool accent.

"It is believed the incidents are linked.
