A POPULAR Stockton Heath bar has submitted plans for a new roof terrace for al fresco drinking and dining once restrictions ease.
Expédition, based at the Victoria Buildings in London Road, has told Warrington Borough Council its proposal is 'in direct response to the Covid pandemic, as external dining/drinking areas are now vital in maintaining safe trading for the hospitality industry'.
If it is approved, the roof space will be developed above Expédition and the former Bistrot Pierre with a retractable pergola roof, lounge-style seating and planting features such as 'living walls' and a feature tree with a dining table built around it.
The pergola roof, which will be dotted with LED lights, will cover the entire terrace so it will be suitable for all weather and have its own bar.
In the planning documents, JSA Design said: "The application is to upgrade the existing underutilised roof space, transforming it into a roof terrace bar and dining area.
"The ethos of the roof terrace will be to be provide customers with a relaxed dining area where they can go for high quality light bites in an airy environment, whatever the weather as the retractable roof will create a covered area that can be closed off when needed.
"There will also be a bar as a focal point when you first step onto the terrace which will be used for bar dining as well as serving drinks to the terrace.
"The reduced menu will provide light bites that will also not impact the restaurant kitchen in busy periods.
"The Roof Terrace will have a relaxed lounge feel which ties into the interior of the existing restaurant. The finishes will be clean and muted with pops of colour for focal points around the terrace.
"Pergola beams and walls will be utilized for lighting, decoration and planting."
Festoon lighting and planting will also be used to add to the atmosphere.
The planning statement added: "Planting will be a key part of the visual style of the roof terrace at Expédition. It will be incorporated in hanging troughs and wall displays, utilizing the retractable roof structures to hang planting on."
The proposal has yet to be approved by Warrington Borough Council.
