THE number of new cases of Covid-19 that were recorded in Halton over the past week remains under 200.

The latest Public Health England figures show there were 181 new cases in the borough in the seven days up to November 27, which is considerably fewer than the 284 recorded in the previous week up to November 20.

As such, Halton’s rate of new cases is now calculated to be 139.9 per 100,000 people.

This again shows a large drop compared to the previous seven-day period, during which the borough’s rate was 219.5.

The figures are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government's testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two).

Data for the most recent four days, November 28-December 1, has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

A majority of areas in England – 286 out of 315 – have seen a fall in case rates.
