HALTON has seen its number of new coronavirus cases recorded in the space of a week fall below 200.

According to the latest Public Health England figures, there were 183 new cases identified in the borough in the seven days up to November 26.

This demonstrates a significant fall compared to the previous week up to November 19, which saw 298 new cases recorded.

The downward trend over the past week means that Halton’s weekly case figure is now at its lowest point since the week up to September 16, during which 162 new cases were recorded.

The borough’s rate of new coronavirus cases now stands at 141.4, which is again lower than the rate of 230.3 calculated for the previous seven days up to November 19.

The figures are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government's testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two).

Data for the most recent four days, November 27-30, has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

Swale in Kent continues to have the highest rate in England, with 832 new cases recorded in the seven days to November 26 - the equivalent of 554.4 cases per 100,000 people.

This is followed by Medway (496.5), Boston (481.7) and Thanet (441.8).
