EILEEN Wood nee Hansbury passed away with Covid-19 at Briarfields Residential Home Shrewsbury on November 12.

She was 96.

Mrs Wood was born on February 11, 1924 and grew up in Latchford.

She was educated at Our Lady’s Roman Catholic school in Latchford.

She trained as a fevers and general nurse at London hospitals during the Second World War.

She had many stories of nursing during the Blitz, caring for wounded soldiers and civilians suffering from the bombing.

She herself survived three direct hits while nursing.

In her own way she was part of the generation to whom we owe so much gratitude.

Mrs Woods returned to Warrington shortly after the Second World War.

She lived at Evelyn Street with her husband Charles and her three children; Ronald, Angela and Bernadette.

She worked at Victoria Park Maternity Home in Victoria Park until its closure and then at Warrington General Hospital.

After her retirement she moved to Wem, Shropshire, to live closer to her daughter Angela.

Mrs Woods will be missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well.
