JAKE Hibbert has been making waves in the golfing world ‘across the pond’ of late.

Course records have been smashed and amateur tournaments won as the Delamere Forest Golf Club member's reputation continues to grow.

His latest achievement saw him beat the course record around Miami Shores Country Club during the third round of last month’s Golfweek Miami Amateur.

Hibbert, who hails from Warrington, signed for a round of 61 to beat a club mark that has stood since 2007 as he won the tournament by one shot.

Given his victory qualified him for the South Beach International – an elite amateur competition starting on December 19 – it looks as though Christmas will be spent in the sunnier climes of Florida as opposed to Cheshire.

The 19-year-old is currently stateside on a golfing scholarship at Florida Atlantic University, where he is studying for a degree in sports management.

He is still a member at Delamere Forest as well as at Warrington Golf Club, where he became the youngest player to win the club’s championship aged 14 in 2016.

Indeed, he has been establishing himself as one to watch for many years now as he racked up the success on these shores.

He represented Cheshire and the England regional squad and even came close to being in the field for last year’s Open Championship as he reached the final stages of qualifying.

Upon leaving high school, Hibbert enrolled at Myerscough College in Preston on their BTEC Golf programme before playing in amateur tournaments as far afield as Australia as well as in continental Europe.

From there, he was spotted by College Sports America and the wheels were put in motion for a move to the States.

Before even picking up a golf club aged 10, Hibbert was a sports-mad child and played football, tennis and rugby union to good levels.
