A MAN was rescued by firefighters after being trapped in his lorry following a crash in Widnes yesterday, Thursday.
Shortly before 11am, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service was informed of a collision involving two heavy goods vehicles in Watkinson Way on the approach to junction seven of the M62.
On arrival, the crew from Penketh Fire Station discovered that the collision involved a highway maintenance vehicle carrying loose tarmac and gas cylinders and a HGV carrying scrap metal.
The driver of the highway maintenance vehicle was trapped inside and a gas cylinder was damaged and venting off.
A section of Watkinson Way was temporarily closed as emergency services worked at the scene.
Firefighters isolated two of the gas cylinders and were able to extract the trapped driver from his vehicle.
The two drivers were left in the care of paramedics and firefighters were in attendance for more than an hour.
