ANGLERS have been sending their pictures this week from lockdown fishing sessions across the area.

Gerard Unsworth took his five-year-old son fishing for the first time at the weekend and enjoyed a fruitful day.

"We decided to head up the River Mersey leaving from Spikey Island canal and lock system. These are just some of our catches," he said.

"First fish he’s ever caught and what a fish it was!" said Gerard.

"Small dog fish he thought was a snake haha," said Gerard.

"Small whiting, that proud face is what it’s all about," said Gerard.

Meanwhile, Martyn Fairbrother revealed this as as his first fish of lockdown after 'blanking' on his previous four outings - a humongous 50lb 8oz mirror carp.

And here's some of the fantastic catch pictures readers have sent us during the year, with fishing having been more popular than ever due to the isolation it provides away from the coronavirus pandemic.
